Simon Akeroyd has written numerous horticultural books and articles for national garden and lifestyle magazines and writes in the monthly Grow Your Own magazine as 'The Allotment Gardener.' He is also a member of the Garden Media Guild.
He is currently Head Gardener for the National Trust looking after the English Riviera portfolio including Agatha Christie's Greenway, Coleton Fishacre, Compton Castle and Bradley Manor. He was previously an RHS Garden Manager working at RHS Garden Harlow Carr in North Yorkshire. Prior to that he worked at RHS Garden Wisley for seven years.
He worked for a few years for the BBC as a horticultural researcher and then producer working on various projects such as the RHS Chelsea flower show, Gardeners' World and Hampton Court. He was trained as a BBC journalist and writer and went on to work on lifestyle topics such as food, motoring, holidays and homes.
Apart from gardening he is also a keen beekeeper.
Simon lives by the sea in the Torbay area of South Devon.
